A run down of my adventures to get MythTv up and running.

MythTv is an open source Digital Video Recorder (DVR) – when I started is was actually called a PVR, how times change.

MythTv is similar to TiVo and Windows Media Center but open source and more flexable. It does however require hardware.

It all started back in 2005 when a guy at work mentioned PVRs and MythTv. It got me interested – at that time commerical Hard Disk Recorders were just starting to come out and very expensive. Being able to automatically record TV shows that I was interested in and being able to pause live TV was appealing.

Here were my goals

  1. Use any PC that I had, found or got given for free
  2. Only spend a maximum of $100
  3. Have some fun along the way
